Abstract:Endoscopic polypectomy is an effective method to deal with polyps in the gastrointestinal tract which can dramatically decrease the incidence of advanced colorectal cancer. However, it is associated with some complications, such as postpolypectomy bleeding (PPB), coagulation syndrome, abdomen pain and perforation et al, in which PPB is most common. Although PPB is a relatively rare complication with reported incidence from 0.1% to 6.9%, it can significant increase medical burden because of large number of colonoscopy performed annually and high prevalence of colorectal polyps in general people. The aim of this article is to review the PPB in detail, assess risk factors of PPB, and discuss the clinical management of PPB and the efficacy of prophylaxis in PPB.
