Gastrointestinal endoscopy is an important diagnosis and treatment method for digestive system diseases. Continuous quality improvement and patient safety in gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy are overarching priorities of the endoscopists and nurses. In 2021, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates (ESGENA) Published Guidance for the implementation of a safety checklist for gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates (ESGENA) Position Statement. This article focuses on the formulation, implementation and potential obstacles of the safety checklist in the guideline.
